Mark Skala wrote a post about his trip to WHAT for the brass quintet on Sunday.
"Music took center stage Sunday at the Wellfleet Harbor Actors Theater in Wellfleet. Yes, music was in the spotlight and was the star on the Julie Harris stage as part of a new collaborative between WHAT and the Cape Cod Symphony Orchestra.
Sunday’s event was the first of three concerts in the Symphony Sounds Series being hosted at WHAT. A brass quintet was featured, including CCSO members Walter Bostian on trombone; Meredith Ganler on horn; Stuart Gunn on tuba; Philip Hogue on trumphet and Tobias Monte also on trumphet.
It was what you might call a stripped down symphony performance. The stage was simple — a few plants and the musicians centered in the spotlight. No props, no sets. Just beautiful music as the main attraction.
It was refreshing and unique to just hear the quintet. It gave the audience a wonderful chance to get to know these individual musicians, appreciate their incredible, individual musical gifts and see how they fit into the larger symphony ensemble. With Hague as MC, there were a lot of jokes and laughs mixed in with some exceptional music. I appreciated watching the five of them them interacting with each other and enjoying the intimate setting with the audience...."
Of course we couldn't have done it without our sponsors. Please thank them the next time you do business with: Kinlin Groer, Ocean 104.7, WFCC, Seashore Point, Cape Cod Five, Gatehouse Media and Cape Cod Hearing Centers
